Stylish new hotel offers sophistication
by the sea
Visitors to the south coast can check into
a stylish new hotel with nautical history this summer as one of
Gosport’s oldest inns re-opens its doors on 1 July following
a total refurbishment.
The Old Lodge Hotel and Restaurant in Alverstoke
now features a completely new look including a 55-seat restaurant
and 11 en-suite character bedrooms.
As the former home of RE Froude, pioneering
hydrodynamicist, The Old Lodge offers a new seaside retreat with
strong historical links.
“It’s a real privilege to see
this historical building take on a new lease of life in the form
of a hotel,” said Hotel manager Alistair Taylor. “The
Lodge offers the best of both worlds. It boasts the charm, intimacy
and originality of an independently-run inn with the service and
standards of a established and well-reputed hotel.”
Press and selected guests are invited to
the hotel’s grand opening when Dr Martin Renilson, Deputy
Technical Director QinetiQ’s Haslar-based Sea Division, will
declare The Old Lodge open for business. He will christen the hotel
with a phial of water taken from the very first testing tank used
by Froude at the QinetiQ Haslar Marine Technology Park. Traditionally,
similar phials are presented to all new hydrodynamic facilities
throughout the world.
The white-washed Victorian building located
on The Avenue, features a restaurant called ‘Froudes’
and is an ideal venue for romantic weekend breaks by the sea, small
weddings receptions, business meetings and functions.
“In terms of accommodation, this area
often lacks choice for visitors,” said Alistair. “There
are either family-run B&Bs or branded chain hotels but very
little in-between. We believe The Lodge offers an affordable yet
exclusive option and with a well-run and more personal touch.”
