| ‘VICTORY’
FOR THE TRAFALGAR GARDEN
The Trafalgar Garden has been
awarded a victorious bronze medal at the Hampton Court Palace Flower
Show this week.
Teresa Fisher, who is an Alverstoke
resident, and of Portsmouth-based red roots garden design (southsea)
ltd, who designed the garden together with partner Walter Dall’Omo,
said: “We are thrilled with our bronze medal. As first timers
at the show, we were just pleased to be taking part, but we feel
very honoured to receive such an accolade from the Royal Horticultural
Society during Trafalgar 200 as part of the year-long celebration
of the sea.”
The garden, sponsored by Yardley
London and Merrydown, has been specially designed to mark the bicentenary
of Nelson’s famous battle. It has a distinctly nautical feel,
with colours representing the natural seascape and subtle historical
references portrayed through hard landscaping.
The First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Alan West, who opened the garden
on Monday remarked: “red roots have done a magnificent job
here capturing the power and excitement of the oceans whilst recreating
the formations at the Battle of Trafalgar. The garden is another
wonderful way of celebrating our country’s rich maritime heritage.”
After the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, the Trafalgar Garden
will be displayed in the floral marquee at the Portsmouth &
Southsea Show (5-7 August), and will then be donated to the City
of Portsmouth where it will be on permanent display in the grounds
of the City Museum.
